Discrete event simulation is a method that’s used to simulate the behavior and performance of a real-life system. For example, DES can be used to evaluate how existing procedures and processes will play out in industries such as manufacturing and healthcare.

Other applications of DES are to monitor and predict the behavior of the stock market. DES is also used by administrators to understand how a network such as the internet will behave under an extraordinary event, including natural disasters.
