There are a lot of stats on the high percentage of senior leaders making decisions from intuition or gut instincts, but I won’t quote any of those here as 50% of all stats are made up… 😉
All kidding aside, I will say that in my experience a lot of decisions are made by “I have to go with my gut on this one”. Regardless of your reasons, I do not recommend decision making in this regard as it is often more of a gamble and the odds are rarely in your favour.
What you really need to make your decisions and to curb indigestion is accurate data in a timely manner. However, good data (not just any data) is harder to find the more complex your operations become. The key to reducing your heartburn is simulating your operations in order to understand how that tough decision will be received. If you can experiment with your operations and bring clarity to how an event will impact your throughput, it will allow you to make the right decision and provide proper digestion throughout your company.
