Interest in warehouse automation is surging, based on a survey of warehouse operators by Intelligrated. E-Commerce (66%), Grocery, Food and Beverage (59%) and Logistics (55%) industries are most willing to invest in automation.
Examples abound. Kroger plans to build 20 customer fulfillment centers using Ocado Group-driven automation and AI to service e-grocery orders. Dematic, with automated solutions for warehouses/distribution centers for companies like Amazon, Nike, ZARA USA and PepsiCo, announced that orders doubled in 2Q20 over 2Q19. AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS INC. is adding robots from Kindred Systems, Inc. to distribution centers which use mechanical arms, computer vision and AI to sort through piles of apparel and help workers organize orders and reduce crowding on warehouse floors.
