supply chain modeling and simulation

Polaris Inc. , the leading maker of off-road vehicles in the U.S., has been hit hard by parts shortages. They change strategies on the fly to cope with parts delays and stock on hand.

The company juggles 30 supply chain constraints. When there aren’t enough seats to produce 4-seat all-terrain vehicles, they produce 2 or 3 seat models. When more seats are available, they switch back to 4-seat models. For chip shortages, they redesigned vehicle gauges to use available chips rather than what was used previously. When shocks for snowmobiles ran out, they shipped some snowmobiles without shocks and sent them later for dealers to install. When shocks for single seat ATV’s became scarce, they switched to 2-seat models which used different/available suspension components. Changes to production lines happen quickly, often overnight or on weekends.

Rapid changes in part availability require rapid decisions. MOSIMTEC simulation modeling can help. What products should be produced? In what order? When should production lines be changed? In what way? What changes should be made in production, sales, and supply chain strategies to make things work? Review your options virtually to see what works best before making real world changes. MOSIMTEC can help.
