Using drones for retail deliveries is within reach. Walmart recently invested in DroneUp, the nationwide on-demand drone delivery provider, to continue growing their drone delivery capability.
Walmart partnered with DroneUp last year for trial deliveries of at-home COVID-19 self-collection kits. The trial demonstrated drone deliveries could be done safely and quickly. As a follow-up, Walmart invested in DroneUp to continue developing a scalable last-mile delivery solution. DroneUp operates an on-demand delivery network that matches their database of >10,000 FAA certified pilots to missions nationwide. Walmart’s 4,700 stores are located within 10 miles of 90% of the U.S. population. Drone deliveries are now being tested from a store in Bentonville, AR.
Many companies are exploring drone deliveries, but managing a drone fleet is complex – technology selection, battery life, flight time, payload capacity, data management, predictive maintenance, “fall from the sky” risk, and disaster recovery planning all need to be considered. Simulation modeling can help. Develop your plan virtually using day in the life simulation, capability assessment, network optimization, and restrictions modeling to help your drones soar. MOSIMTEC can help.
