India’s Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) is building the world’s biggest clean energy plant. It’s five times the size of Paris, visible from space, and will generate enough electricity to power Switzerland.

AGEL is a subsidiary of Adani Group (AG), India’s biggest coal importer and a major coal producer. AG has business in ports, thermal power plants, media, cement and more. AG plans to invest $100 Billion in clean energy over the next decade, with 70% of investments in renewables.

AGEL is building the massive solar and wind power plant in the western Indian state of Gujarat at a cost of approximately $20 Billion. It will be the world’s largest renewable park when finished in about 5 years, and should generate enough electricity to power 16 Million Indian homes. The park will cover over 200 square miles and is located 12 miles from the Pakistan border.

Success of the Khavda Renewable Energy Park is key to India’s efforts to reduce pollution and hit its climate goals while meeting fast growing energy needs of the world’s most populous nation of 1.4 billion people. India has a fast-growing economy with coal still accounting for 70% of current electricity production. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised that renewables will fulfill 50% of India’s energy needs by 2030.

India is the world’s third largest energy consuming country, though energy use and emissions per person are less than half the world average per the International Energy Agency (IEA). Energy demand is expected to rise rapidly in coming years due to multiple factors including improved living conditions and climate change. The latter has been fueling deadly heat waves so air conditioner ownership is expected to spike in coming years. By 2050, India’s total electricity demand from residential air conditioners is set to exceed the total energy consumption of Africa today, per the IEA.

Implementing big ideas requires ingenuity, dedication, planning, hard work and more. MOSIMTEC digital twin simulations can help. Whatever your big idea is, you can test options virtually using digital twins to see what works best and what doesn’t before implementing in real life. Assess options virtually in a sandbox environment to change strategy or timing, increase capacity/production, cut cost, reduce risk or meet other goals. MOSIMTEC industrial engineers and data scientists can help you futureproof your business.
