South Korea is showing us where the world is headed. The government announced a Digital New Deal to focus on big data, AI and 5G, and aims to be the world’s 3rd ranked digital economy by 2030.
They currently lag in data science (ranked 50th in the world by Coursera), but plan to close the gap with a data dam to collect data from public/private sources, standardize data so it can be analyzed, and build 15 big data platforms. They’re training 1,500 data scientists/AI specialists by 2022, investing in cloud computing for government, promoting industrial convergence between 5G and AI, and teaming with the private sector to develop an AI venture capital fund.
