Per the International Federation of Robotics, a half million industrial robots were installed in 2021, beating the 2018 record by 22%. The world now has 3.5 million industrial robots.

Three factors are driving robot growth. The first is that demographic trends are causing a worker shortage. The second is that robots have become more capable, more quickly than ever before. New robots have mobility/vision, also more flexibility in behavior than before. The third is that rising human labor costs and more capable robots mean the time it takes a new robot to pay for itself is dropping. A Chinese robot operating a machine tool in a factory can do the work of 2-3 people and pay for itself in <2 years.

MOSIMTEC is often asked to evaluate automation initiatives and develop control algorithms, test sequencing rules and stress test the ‘whole system’ under various demand profiles to predict performance and identify risks/bottlenecks. Using simulation modeling to compare an autonomous mobile robot system versus adding labor while factoring in capacity, productivity, downtime, charging time, labor cost, etc. is critical to know if robots are the right fit. MOSIMTEC data scientists/industrial engineers can help you future-proof your business.
